Well after working on over 80 newscasts, writing countless stories, and editing dozens of news stores, my tenure working on Carolina News Today (CNT) has come to an end.
It is hard to believe that four years of nursing my "baby" is over. Every Wednesday and Thursday night during the eight semesters I have worked on CNT has been news show night. Oftentimes, the show served as a relief from the drama and stresses of college life. Sure, I have complained about working on it, but it is something I really enjoyed doing.
I also have had the opportunity to work with some great people. From my three excellent anchors (Matt, Marquita, and Aaron), an extraordinary director (Jules) and technical director (Dennis), and great associate producers (Dennis, Anthony, and Jose), these people showed a great passion for what they did and helped me out in so many ways to get the show together each week; not to mention making it look good on the air.
I like to think that the work I did as producer of CNT impacted someone's life in some small way. Lots of people complain about the news media being sensationalistic and emphasizing tabloid journalism over meaningful stories. However beyond all of that, the stories that I and so many other people in this field tell are all about people. If the work I did helps someone make a crucial decision in their life, that's what makes what I do fulfilling.
Anyway, I wish the best of luck to Matt, Marquita, Jules, Elexcia, Jose and everyone else that is graduating that I have worked with. You all will go far in this field, no matter what you pursue. I just hope that I have the opportunity to work with you all professionally in the industry in the future.
