I don't know what the managers have in store for me, but I am sure whatever it is, it is going to be a nightmare.
Today I trained on the noon newscast. I have had experience writing the early morning shows and evening shows, so I have some basic idea of what is expected. Now since the last time I was there, the newscast has expanded to one hour. Let me be blunt...I am not a fan of one hour newscasts because you have the news of the day for roughly half of it and the other half consists of fluff material to make up time. Why give the viewer a half hour of news they can really use and then turn around and give them another half hour of fluff that has no meaning to them whatsoever?
Anyway, writing for the show, while I like to do it, takes a long time to do, for me at least. I prefer to re-write scripts that we get with the video material that we use because you can tailor the script to how the anchor reads the material. Today it seemed to take me a long time to re-write the material and it got to the point where I was just copying over the stuff from the script that was provided with the video and just leaving it because of a lack of time; something I did not enjoy doing.
So tomorrow I get to stack and write the show. That should be fun to do in about four hours!
I also get to deal with live shots for the first time...again...more fun!
I'll let you know how it turns out tomorrow. Hopefully I will make it through.
